Here is the honest truth about social media content:
It's everywhere and we all consume it daily.. without realizing it.
Humans now have access to information that we aren't even actively searching for.
Remember back in 2004 (i'm old), when if you wanted to find out about something you had to pull out the good old AskJeeves? (yeah, THAT old).
Search the topic you have found an interest in...
Then read all the info your brain would allow you to absorb.
Then YouTube hits the scene and makes access to video easier for everyone.
Still at this point, nobody really knew what, or how, video on the internet could be best used.
It started out as entertaining cat videos and funny flash animations... (remember those?)
But then as people began to request more information a switch was flipped.
Video could now be used to deliver educational and informative content to those seeking it.
Fast forward to 2020 and the Coronavirus pandemic...
Everyone stuck at home with no where to go, and creators started REALLY creating.
I mean, what else is there to do?
Now consumers are really consuming... (again, what else is there to do?)
Even now consuming information and visual stimulation from content we didn't even ask for, but eventually gravitated towards.
And a few short years later here we are... Video content has taken over our digital landscapes with a vengeance.
And rightfully so,
This content is the easiest content to consume, while simultaneously connecting with the message and the messenger.
But the one core group that still hasn't fully grasped this concept is businesses and business owners.
Now that's not to say "businesses out there are not making video content" because there are A LOT that are.
But those that are doing it successfully and with a purpose are still just a small amount when you look at it from a 30,000 ft view.
Most are still stuck in a mentality of "What is the return on this monetarily?"
And this is usually reflecting a short amount of time for expected results.
But what I have learned in my 5+ years of making digital content through video...
is that video content, especially today, is not about tomorrow's profits, but rather next years overall growth.
Now 10 different people in spaces like mine will tell you 10 different things when it comes to creating video content...
For example:
"More volume is better"
"More engaging is better"
"Quality isn't important"
"Quality is everything"
And the truth is these are all just opinions and the methods they subscribe to...
But I believe there is a happy medium here that can be achieved.
See, you don't need a dedicated videographer following you around like Gary V has...
What you do need is a system of content planning and execution that allows you to maximize productivity for the business and stay consistent with your content.
Here is what I believe:
CONSISTENCY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.
And volume doesn't mean consistency...
Quality is important from 2 angles, the visual and the substance... there is a happy medium to this duo.
Not every video has to be a polished Super Bowl ad, but the level of quality shows your consumer how serious you take it. It is all about perception at the end of the day.
Information content is king... Pulling back the curtain to help your ideal audience understand something that is, generally, rather confusing helps tenfold with client acquisition.
Hiring a team, internally, to execute this ALWAYS is more expensive in the long run.
